IURA
Connecting individuals with gynecologists who prioritize their values.
UX/UI, Mobile App
An SJSU Grant/Award and RSCA Fellowship Project Recipient.
Overview
A unique physician-patient pairing system that goes beyond superficial criteria. Health inequity remains a prevalent and pressing safety concern. Legislation, unsafe medical practices, and inadequate sex education for the youth collectively contributes to this significant problem.
Award
This project has received recognition from San Jose State University’s Research Fellowship Program and has been honored with multiple funding awards.
the challenge
Implicit biases still exist in modern-day healthcare systems. According to the UNPF (United Nations Population Fund).
“Only 55% of women have bodily autonomy”
and
There is shame around communicating specific needs to a doctor in order to get the care they deserve.
the question
How might we connect individuals seeking reproductive health find doctors while tackling healthcare implicit biases?
the goal
An app-driven system that utilizes social technology that can help people find doctors who match their needs and values beyond the surface level.
the design
competitive analysis
Existing physician locator applications rely solely on generic surface level filtering systems.
Our research on health inequity revealed that focusing solely on broad factors such as filtering doctors by race, gender, and age has not led to a tailored and equitable experience for patients. We recognized the need to bring something unique and more exploratory to the oversaturated market.
the gap
We learned that we need to offer a fresh approach to doctor pairing that goes beyond traditional parameters, ensuring a more personalized healthcare experience.
Limiting the ability for tailored needs
Does not instill a feeling of confidence and security
Lack of focus on inclusive and mindful care
Overstimulating UI and makes content look inaccesssible
emphasizing core values
We organized the values we came up with according to the 4 defining categories or characteristics listed such as: mental, cultural, relational, and physical.
The key consideration was to enable people to approach their search with a sense of empowerment and control.
embracing diversity
socially driven communities provide platforms for sharing experiences, fostering dialoque, and raising awareness about the importance of diversity in OB-GYN care. By encouraging community driven representation, we can cultivate a more equitable and empathetic healthcare landscape.
