the challenge
The youth plays a vital role in shaping our evolving society. It is essential to ensure individuals from diverse backgrounds have equal opportunities to engage in the voting process. As we delved into the issue, we asked - what prevents youth from participating?
the question
How might we inspire students to participate in local and state elections and become integral members for social change?
the design
Registering to Vote
Getting Involved
research
Young people continue to believe in their generation’s political power and express strong intention to vote, but some do not feel qualified to participate, and feel that they lack information and support. Therefore, we conducted a survey for 32 participants (ages 18-29) and 7 interviews. The objective was to determine certain influences that affect low voter turnout among this particular age group.
discovery
Civic Learning isn’t reaching all youth. youth voter turnout between ages 18-24 remains low at 48%, despite reaching one of its highest levels ever in 2020.
